ASKEW at POHUKAINA STREET
Painted by Askew of New Zealand. This is the story of the Tuhoe Iwi who are currently serving time after a unbelievable series of events that played out over a period of 5 years. It goes back to the time of the Treaty of Waitangi, which they refused to sign – as a result they were heavily persecuted, their land was confiscated via the scorched earth method and it’s a contentious issue that has continued until this day. More info can be found here. The mural is located on Pohukaina and Cooke street.
